Missive 012 - Hong Kong

September 27th, 2026

I wanna sleep.

But ChatGPT told me Saturday night is the best night to catch the vibes of soho so I go. Ai wins over laziness. I could just stop the missive here by how grotesque this is.

I’m not used to this kind of vibes. I need a Negroni to blend in. Age is vary, young people. Too young my grandpa side says. Tourists mainly. Expats maybe. I have to admit that was refreshing when I was able to speak English straight away without Google Translate as intermediary.

I thought I would be hardly surprised by a place by now, but Hong Kong is different. It fascinating. A mix between New York and Hong Kong [Ed.: Bangkok]. Skyscrapers melting with nature. Block of cement and neons (actually mostly led) that conquers the hills.

A woman, just stop my writing flow. She want to get a photo. I didn’t expect people to be so attracted by a camera hanging on a shoulder.

What was I saying?

Hong Kong. Yes.

A place were I could feel energy pumping since the first step I took outside my tiny, cramped, at the limit of decency room. But hey! I’m in the middle of the action. Annexed territories [Ed.: Kowloon]. That how they call this part of Hong Kong. And it seems it comes with a good dose of snobbish racism from the main island side. Exactly where I am right now. On the side of a busy street writing these notes before moving on to get one more Negroni before heading back home.

A terms I was used to use with my friend back in my hometown comes to my mind: cubamilla. The last Cubalibre before going home.

Other times.

Till the next missive,

— M

PS. If you've ever wondered how I write my missives, they usually start like this. Something strikes me, I step to the side, and I start writing in my notepad (have I already mentioned how much I love it?) or in my notes app (like tonight). Then I revise, expand, and add a bit of magic. But not this time. This missive is exactly the note I wrote at 02:11 on a Saturday night, on the side of a street in Lan Kwai Fong. LKF to its friends. I only added the photos, a couple of editor's notes, and a few line breaks, all from a fresher me.
