Alliance for Smiles, Lagos
In April 2026, I was embedded with Alliance for Smiles on a one-week medical mission at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Nigeria. The mission focused on cleft lip and palate surgeries, with a dual purpose: treating patients directly and transferring knowledge to local medical teams, covering the full scope of cleft care from surgical technique to speech pathology and post-operative support.
My role combined photography and writing. I produced a photo report documenting the mission across all its dimensions, from the operating theatre to the waiting room, and wrote the six daily briefings published on the Alliance for Smiles website. Each briefing aimed to bring the human stories of the mission to a wider audience.
